Monday Evening Update

Vicki and I have communicated via email and text through out the day. Following is an excerpt from one of the emails I received:

Well, in the morning will be one week since our nightmare began. It seems as though it has been an eternity not just one week. Even Dr. Bartlett commented today that this has been a long week! (he is such a caring doctor)

Timothy still needs lots of prayers! From Friday to Saturday was a huge leap but now we are taking 2 steps forwards and 1 step back - yet that is still progress. One of the main concerns has been his nutrition. He just will not eat or drink. It is like fighting every drop or bite into him. It is not just the hospital food. Aunt Donna (Sis. Flowers) brought him chocolate chip cookies and Gavin Smith made him brownies, we can't even get him to eat a bite of those. He has 2 things that we can get in him Lipton Peach Tea and Real Fruit Juice mixed berry Popsicles. Neither of those have any real nutritional value certainly not any protein which he needs. Dr. Bartlett had said he would have to put back in the feeding tube, but doesn't want to do that any more than Timo wants it. So, last hope was to call in a dietician. She suggested pedia-sure (meal supplement drinks forbabies/toddlers) If he will drink 300 ml per day (about the amount of a can coke) then with the tiny bites we force down him he should be ok for a few more days. He hates the stuff. So, his sweet nurse took a medicine cup and marked 30 ml on it. If he will drink that much 10 times per day then he has his 300 ml. It is not much more than a dose of cough medicine. And him drinking it (2 big swallows) as a medicine he will gag it down. It is very likely that his brain is not telling his stomach that he is hungry. He said today that he is very full so why eat?

It is also possible that his stomach is just not wanting food in it right now, who knows? Dr. Bartlett said no need to figure it out at this point just get the protein in him.

He has been somewhat confused today. Confused at what is going on. He just can't get in his mind why he is so sick and why he is in Johannesburg. When he had to tell Bibi good bye he really cried. I was out in the hall talking with Sis. Nancy Grandquist when Bibi said good bye to him. When I went back in the PICU he was really crying. His nurse was sitting with him and talking with him. He asked "Why does everyone keep leaving me?" Someone is with him 24 hours per day so not sure what that meant.

I think the adrenaline rush of survival is over and we are all 3 feeling it.

I know we will experience some set-backs along the way but we are so thankful for the Hand of God on Timothy. Dr. Bartlett looked at him today and said "You are one really lucky boy, Timothy".

Vicki, Tremayne, and Timothy will be coming home for further testing/treatments. They may be home as early as August 18 or 19. Timothy will still need lots of rest once they arrive. This time will be dedicated to getting further medical assitance and time spent with family which will bring about healing for Vicki and Tremayne as well as Timothy. We are currently planning a Simoneaux/Thomas family day. I think that will make any sick boy feel better!!! We are a wild and crazy bunch. I'm sure if it's done at the lake there'll be fishing/boating/jet ski's. We ALWAYS have good food and lots of it.

The reality to this being a longer rather than sooner illness is settling on Vicki and Tremayne today. Keep them in your prayers. They are full of faith but do realize that it will only be with God if it is a sooner recovery. We refuse to live in denial but yet refuse to allow our faith to be weakened.

We love you all!!!

I don't know if they can get a hold of some ice cream. If so you can make a bannana with some nuts, milk shake that will begin to put some ounces then pounds. That has worked for me when I got out of surgery and was not able to eat for days after. It is a try.

Sis Tracie-We are a small church in St Augustine, FL, and we have a very large burden for Timo and his family. This Sunday, my husband called a 30 day church-wide fast for this situation in particular. After staying up all night on Tuesday evening last week, I knew God was working mightily in this whole situation. But, with all the residual situations, we feel in the Holy Ghost that "these things goeth not out but by prayer and fasting." We are praying for completion to the great work already begun in Timo. We know if this were our child, and we were worn out over the day to day of hospital "stuff", then we would want people praying and fasting for us and our family. We are expecting great things from our great big God! Keep up the great work of keeping us all informed. We are praying very specifically. Although we have never met, we have the self-same Spirit within us. God does all things very well.
Our love and prayers are with all of you,
Sis Brenda Hudnall

When you're looking down that seemingly endless tunnel of recovery, it seems like a long haul. When I was going through a rough time a couple of years ago, I got the best advice ever - take things in increments that you can handle. If all you can trust the Lord for is one minute, then do that. After that minute, the next minute gets a bit easier, then 5 minutes, then an hour. Sometimes you have to go right back to that minute at a time, but it works, and throughout it you can see that the Lord is faithful EVERY minute! Stay strong, knowing that saints all over the world are praying for strength, encouragement, healing and anything else that y'all need.

In the meantime, every time I go to pray for Timo, I hear the Lord saying "He is healed." I start praying,"Lord, touch Timo" and hear "He is healed." At times I just mention Timo's name, and hear that refrain "He is healed." It gives me such peace, even though we might not be able to see it yet, the Lord does. I hope that gives all of you peace, as well.

We will keep praying to see the results of that healing, knowing that God is faithful in all things. God bless you all with peace, understanding, strength and His love.

You all, especially Timo, are still in our thoughts and prayers. We will pray that Timo gets hungry! Gatorade is good for sick kids too, I don't know if it is available there or not.

We pray that you feel God's strength, His peace and His healing power today.

Hi,
I wanted to share with you a similar experience our family went through a year ago this month. I hope it will give the family encouragement.
In August, 2007 our little son Shane (7 now) began to feel bad, was slightly fevered and his face was red. We took him to our local peditrician and had him checked, The diagnosis was that he probably just had a flu bug. He was given fever meds & antibiotics and sent home. But he continued to feel bad and was getting worse. He even started acting incoherent and started starring off and it was hard for us to get his attention. Then he started having seizures. In the meantime we had taken him back to the Dr. twice. The next trip he was admitted to the local hospital.
To give a little background info on Shane he came to us in foster care at 18 mos. and when he was three we adopted him. He has a severe mental handicap, is nearly blind, is fed through a continuos feeding tube, and has cerebral palsey with no control of legs/feet or arms/hands. But he is the toughest soldier I've ever met! The judge told us at the adoption hearing that he had died 37 times and was revived each time! He has not died since the judge signed a do not recusitate order! (We have since had the order removed) Thank you Jesus!
But getting back to last August...after a week in our local hospital we had him moved by ambulance to our state university hospital where all the doctors were bewildered with his symptoms and did not really know what to do. On the first night there about two o'clock in the morning Shane started to writhe in the bed shaking arms and legs, twisting his head back and forth, and screaming and crying to the top of his lungs. The Peditrician ordered Adivan and it did not help, an hour later he ordered Tylenol three but the pain and crying/screaming continued, the Dr. ordered morphine and Shane still cryed on. I took my wife's hand and walked to the beside and bowed my head and prayed the hardest prayer I had ever prayed. With tears of agony running down both our faces I said Lord Jesus, I commend Shane to you to do with as you will. He is in your hands and only you have the ability to let him live or let him die but I pray that he will not have to suffer this misery any longer. Help him, Please Jesus, Please!
At 06:00 o'clock he went to sleep (shortly after our prayer).
That morning another doctor came in and wanted to do a spinal tap. Because Shane also has scoliosis (curved spine) it took seven attempts (shots with large needle) and finally under an x-ray machine they reached the fluids, examined it and found Viral Meningitis.
The doctors changed his medicines and in a day or so he began to get better, after four or five days he came home. But it took over a month for him to get back to his old smiling self. There were periods of listlessness and starring but we kept giving him the meds and praying and God brought him through. He is a growing boy (80 lbs) and will be 8 yrs old on Nov 22! We give God the praise and the glory. And although he still can't walk or talk due to his other conditions I know God has a plan. I keep praying one day to come home and see Shane leaping and shouting for joy and yelling Daddy, Daddy, I can walk! But one thing is sure if he never does that here I know a land where he will and I plan to be there to see it!
God Bless Timo and all the family and I pray for a complete healing for him.
I read your web each day to follow his progress.
Best Wishes In Christ,
Lee, Carolyn & Shane Evans
P.S. You may ask the doctor about trying Gatorade with Timo. I am told this has glucose and other goodies in it that help the body and almost every child loves it.
