Colorado - First Day
This morning Kent and I arrived at IAH early and enjoyed breakfast before boarding the plane for Denver. Once we had boarded and were ready to push back the pilot informed us that the plane had 4,000 extra lbs of gas. We had to wait for mechanics to unload some before departing. Ugghhhh...Kent and I didn't get seats together this made it more uncomfortable. Finally we were able to depart and I slept at least 1/2 of the trip. The other 1/2 of the trip I spent some much needed time cleaning up my laptop.
Upon arrival in Denver we saw beautiful snowcapped mountains! Aaaahhhhh!!! We had a rental car delay and was nervous we wouldn't make the memorial service for our dear saint, Layfette "Lafe" McKinney in time. We passed at least two police on the side of the road with their radar guns aimed to the ground! Whew!!! They apparently were taking brief breaks. Isn't God faithful? Does He have anything to do with keeping us from a ticket? We made the funeral with minutes to spare! Lafe was laid to rest in the Fort Logan National Cemetery. He had a full Veteran service. After which Kent spoke briefly to the family. The funeral was very small consisting of his loving wife, Kathy, and 4 other family members. Kent and I were thankful we were able to represent CUPC to their family members.
After leaving Fort Logan we traveled to Colorado Springs. We stopped at an outlet mall along the way. Kent was thankful we took in a whole mall for only $20! After checking in our hotel we rode thru the Garden of the Gods. What a beautiful rock/mountain nature area! I'm a SteinMart queen and we found one nearby, too.
Tomorrow we are going to ride the cog train to Pike's Peak. We are looking forward to a day of rest and relaxation. If all goes as planned we will travel back to Denver tomorrow afternoon.
We are missing REDONIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Last week we were in Lufkin without her. When we get home she leaves for Arkansas for a few days. I told Kent at dinner that I'm going to be VERY sad the next few days without her. While we are gone we'll be busy and be ok but once we get home it's going to be TOOOO lonely. Trent and Calah may have to stay with us! Teasing that would be too much noise. Redonia is quiet.
