Vacation Solicitation

My boyfriend and I are planning a getaway. We have been lots of places from Canada to Mexico from New York City to California to Florida and most points in between.

This year we want to do something relaxing not high energy. We have thought of flying somewhere then renting a convertible and driving. We enjoy pretty roadsides, quaint shopping villages and good food! We thought of flying to California renting a car and doing a road trip. We have been to San Francisco several times. We have also been to San Diego. Any suggestions??????

Highway 1 in California....through From the LA area all the way up to San Francisco. You go through Santa Barbara, Santa Maria (GOOOOOOD Tri-tip!!), on past Solvang (a quaint little Dutch? village), up to Pismo and Monterey (17 mile drive!!), into Santa Cruz (the boardwalk), and then gorgeous San Fran. You can even continue above San Fran into Oregon. Simply breathtaking!!

I would try flying to Denver, renting a car, and a condo in the mountains. My brother and sister in law own a condo there and have the best getaways there. I have been once (not to their condo as it was before they bought it)....there are lots of things to do even in the off ski-season. You can go on covered wagons trips, rent paddle boats, take trips up on the ski lifts and see the beauty. There are interesting shops too. I am thinking of the Keystone area....but there are others. ....just a thought since you asked.......

I'm with Jana! The beautiful California coast cannot be beat. Unless you want to spend a lot of money and go to Hawaii, then I highly recommend Kauai.
There is a wonderful place in Solvang - the Inn at Petersen Village - very quaint and relaxing, with delicious food. Solvang itself is known for many wonderful bakeries.

Susies, we've done the Colorado trip several times. We really enjoy it. Just wanting something different.

We are leaning to California. Solvang: haven't heard of that one. I've added it to my list. Ok, Kathy, which bakery do you recommend? If you've read my charming hospitality blog or even by reading this blog you must surely know we brake for bakeries!!! lol

Oh my, I can't recommend ONE bakery! They are all delicious!!! There is the Solvang Bakery, Mortensen's Danish Bakery, Olsen's Danish Bakery, Danish Village Bakery... They are all within walking distance. And when you've had your share of sweets, stop at the Vinhus for cheese and crackers...

FYI - Solvang is not actually on the coast, it's a bit inland, between Santa Barbara and Santa Maria.

Have to agree with Jana and Kathy, with two additions. Eat at Jocko's in Nipomo (north of Santa Maria) on Hwy 101, go east off Tefft, second stop light on corner. It is the hangout for all preachers and saints during camp meeting. It's very popular so be willing to wait. Plus if you precede past San Francisco, take Hwy One from Stinson Beach and definitely stay on the coast route through Mendocino. Breathtaking views, quaint little towns - what a kickback from hectic lives. Of course, I'm partial to the coast.

I have enjoyed following your blog during the past year or so. Now that I'm retired, I have decided to try blogging. Please stop by at your leisure.

Well I will agree, Highway 1 in California is the greatest trip, though we are leaving for Kansas this Monday.

Thanks for your constant inspirations.

We were just in Southern Ca and had forgotten how beautiful it is. We didn't get any further North than LA but had a wonderful time.
